Kim Prevost

Kim Prevost (born 27 April 1968) in New Orleans, Louisiana. Jazz singer.

Early Life

Kim Prevost was raised in New Orleans within a musical family and was introduced to jazz at an early age by her uncles, who performed in a jazz organ trio. Her early musical foundations were established in the church choir, where she performed duets with her father, the pastor. Prevost attended college to study dance and also worked as a professional model. During her early years, she listened to vocalists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, and Gladys Knight, which influenced her vocal development.

Career

Prevost began her professional stage career in musical theater, appearing in productions of Sweet Charity, Dreamgirls, and a Cole Porter review directed by Allen Toussaint. In 1999, she won the B.E.T. Jazz Discovery national competition alongside her husband, guitarist Bill Solley. Their debut album, I Would Give All My Love, was released in April 1999 on STR Digital Records, followed by several releases, including On Canal Street (2002), Talk To Me (2002), and Heal My Heart (2019). Prevost's technical milestones include featured vocals on the Nine Inch Nails album The Fragile (1999) and collaborations with Arturo Sandoval, Bobby McFerrin, and Bill Summers.

Personal Life

Prevost is married to her long-term musical partner, Bill Solley. Her professional legacy is defined by a vocal style that synthesises jazz, blues, and R&B-tinged gospel. Outside of her performing career, Prevost has been involved in community work, including service as a classroom aid for children with severe disabilities and volunteering for regional animal shelters. She has also transitioned into the business sector, where she has founded and managed resource brokerage and consulting firms serving the manufacturing and energy industries.
