Sinne Eeg (born 1 September 1977; Lemvig, Denmark) is a Danish jazz vocalist and composer. Internationally recognised for her distinctive phrasing and authoritative stage presence, she is widely regarded as one of the preeminent jazz singers in Scandinavia. Throughout a prolific career, she has garnered acclaim for her ability to balance the traditions of the Great American Songbook with a modern Nordic sensibility.

Her artistic contributions have been honoured with numerous accolades, including multiple Danish Music Awards, the prestigious Ben Webster Prize, and the Queen Ingrid’s Honorary Grant.

Early Life

Born in Lemvig, Denmark, Sinne Eeg was raised in a deeply musical household where her father played double bass, her mother played clarinet, and her brother played saxophone. This immersive environment established her foundations in jazz, leading her to pick up the alto saxophone during her teenage years before focusing primarily on her voice.

She pursued formal training at the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, Southern Denmark (formerly the West Jutland Music Conservatory), graduating in 2003. To further refine her improvisational skills, she studied in New York City under the mentorship of renowned American jazz vocalists Janet Lawson and Jay Clayton.

Career

Her professional recording career gained significant momentum with the release of her breakthrough album Waiting for Dawn (2007), which secured her first Danish Music Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album. She continued this success with a string of critically acclaimed releases, including Don't Be So Blue (2010), Face the Music (2014), and the intimate duo recording Eeg – Fonnesbæk (2015) with bassist Thomas Fonnesbæk.

In 2020, she collaborated with the Danish Radio Big Band for the album We've Just Begun, further cementing her reputation as a top-tier composer and bandleader. Her discography is characterised by long-standing collaborations with elite musicians such as pianist Jacob Christoffersen and American drummer Peter Erskine.

Personal Life

In her personal life, Sinne Eeg is married to her frequent musical collaborator, the pianist Jacob Christoffersen. The couple met through the Copenhagen jazz scene and have maintained a close professional partnership alongside their private life.

Beyond her recording and touring schedule, she is an active educator who has conducted masterclasses in Europe, Asia, and the United States, sharing her expertise in vocal technique and improvisation. Her influence extends across the global jazz community, where she is celebrated for revitalising the vocal jazz tradition for contemporary audiences.

Current Activities

At present, Sinne Eeg remains active within her genre, with updates announced via official channels as confirmed. She is currently supporting her recent album Shikiori, a duo project recorded in Japan with Jacob Christoffersen, which was released in 2025.
