Sydney Loren Bennett (born 23 April 1992) in Los Angeles, California, is an American singer, songwriter, and producer known professionally as Syd (formerly Syd tha Kyd). She established her career as a member of the alternative hip hop collective Odd Future and as the founding member of the band The Internet.
Career
Bennett's professional journey began within the Odd Future collective, where she served as a primary engineer and producer, recording many of the group's early works in her home studio. In 2011, she founded The Internet, further expanding her influence in the alternative R&B space. She transitioned into a solo career with the 2017 release of her debut album, Fin, followed shortly by the EP Always Never Home. Bennett has collaborated with various high-profile artists, including featuring on Lil Uzi Vert’s Eternal Atake and Zayn’s Nobody Is Listening. In 2022, she released her second solo studio album, Broken Hearts Club, and received industry recognition for co-writing "Plastic Off the Sofa" on Beyoncé's Renaissance project. Throughout late 2025, she maintained a consistent live presence by touring as a supporting act for major artists, including Billie Eilish on the "Hit Me Hard and Soft" tour and Reneé Rapp on the "Bite Me" US tour.
Personal Life
Born into a musical family, Bennett was influenced by her mother’s interest in DJing and the work of her uncle, Mikey Bennett, a reggae producer. She began building a home studio at age 14 to master sound engineering and production before focusing on her own vocal contributions. Her education spanned Palisades Charter High School and Hamilton Music Academy, the latter of which she credits for providing a more conducive environment for her creative development. Bennett’s stage name was originally coined by her brother, Ty, and she reclaimed it during her tenure with Odd Future.
At the time of writing, currently managed independently following the completion of her contract with Columbia Records, Bennett is focused on both solo and group endeavours. In 2025, she released the singles "Die For This" and "GMFU" after a brief hiatus. Upcoming projects for the current and upcoming year include a confirmed fifth studio album with The Internet.
