Paris L. Holley

Paris L. Holley (born 1 August 1951), performing as Paris, is an American vocalist and songwriter who came to prominence with the modern soul classic "I Choose You."

Holley wrote and recorded "I Choose You," released in 1984 on Chicago's Kelli Arts Records and produced by Otis Leavill and Carl Davis, the latter a celebrated producer associated with Chicago's Windy City soul sound.

The song, a smooth, mellow example of the "Chicago stepper" style, received a UK release the same year on Bluebird Records, entering the UK Singles Chart for three weeks and peaking at number 81.

Despite its modest chart placement, the track became a substantial favourite on London's soul and rare groove scenes, with airplay from DJs including Robbie Vincent on Radio London helping to establish its lasting popularity among soul and two-step/blues dance collectors.

In 2012, a reworked version of the song, credited as "The Return," was released, revisiting the original recording for a new audience.
