Ludacris

Christopher Brian Bridges (born 11 September 11 1977; Champaign, Illinois), known professionally as Ludacris (pronounced 'ludicrous' in American English), is an American rapper, actor, and record executive. Regarded as one of the most commercially successful "Dirty South" artists of the early 2000s, Bridges is celebrated for his punchy, comedic flow and larger-than-life music videos.

Beyond his recording career, he has established himself as a versatile actor, most notably for his long-running role as Tej Parker in the Fast & Furious franchise. He is also the founder of the record label Disturbing Tha Peace.

Early Life

Born in Champaign, Illinois, Bridges is the only child of Roberta Shields and Wayne Brian Bridges. He moved with his family to the Chicago area for middle school before settling in Atlanta, Georgia, at the age of nine—a city that would become central to his musical identity. He attended Banneker High School in Atlanta and later studied music management at Georgia State University.

His entry into the music industry began not as a rapper but as a radio personality; he worked as a DJ under the name "Chris Lova Lova" at Atlanta’s Hot 97.5 (now Hot 107.9), where he honed his comedic timing and made essential industry connections, including with producer Timbaland.

Career

Bridges’ recording career launched with his independent debut album Incognegro (1999), which he sold out of his car trunk. Its local success caught the attention of Def Jam South, who repackaged it as his major-label debut, Back for the First Time (2000). The album reached number four on the US Billboard 200, fuelled by the hit singles "What's Your Fantasy" and "Southern Hospitality". His follow-up, Word of Mouf (2001), solidified his stardom with the top-ten hits "Rollout (My Business)" and "Move Bitch".

In 2004, he earned his first number-one hit on the US Billboard Hot 100 as a featured artist on Usher's "Yeah!", and later topped the chart with his own single "Money Maker" (featuring Pharrell Williams) in 2006.

Bridges has won three Grammy Awards, including Best Rap Album for Release Therapy (2006).As an actor, he made a seamless transition to Hollywood. After minor roles, he garnered critical acclaim for his performance as Anthony in the Academy Award-winning film Crash (2004) and as Skinny Black in Hustle & Flow (2005).

However, he is best known globally for his recurring role as technical expert Tej Parker in the Fast & Furious film series, beginning with 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003). In 2021, he created and starred in the Netflix animated series Karma’s World, inspired by his eldest daughter.

Personal Life

Bridges is married to Eudoxie Mbouguiengue, a model and philanthropist from Gabon; the couple wed in 2014. He is a father to four daughters, including Karma Bridges, who directly inspired his educational media franchise.

A dedicated philanthropist, he established The Ludacris Foundation in 2001 to inspire youth through education and community development, focusing on leadership and healthy living. He maintains deep ties to Atlanta, where he has been honoured for his contributions to the city's cultural and economic growth.

Current Activities

Managed by his long-time partners Chaka Zulu and Jeff Dixon at Ebony Son Entertainment, Ludacris remains a dominant force in entertainment. In late 2025, he celebrated the 25th anniversary of his label, Disturbing Tha Peace, highlighting the imprint's legacy in Southern hip-hop. Musically, he returned to the charts with the release of the single "44 Bars" in December 2025 and "Pull Over" in April 2026, the latter serving as the lead single for his anticipated tenth studio album. He continues to tour and host major industry events, including the 2026 iHeartRadio Music Awards.
